Darkmoon Faire is now open, both on live and on the Beta servers. After finishing up with my dailies and such on live, I popped on over to the Beta to check out a hunch I had on the Darkmoon Rabbit, which had an achievement pop up for killing it. I found it right where I expected.
He is hanging out by the cave on the Southeast part of the island. He is about the size of a normal rabbit and is neutral, which means people might think he is a critter. Those people would be wrong… DEAD wrong…
This is obviously not something someone can easily solo. Well… When I first arrived there was a Goblin Warlock soloing him, slowly, had him down to about 61000k health. I died a few times trying to help him, came back to find him gone after a run back. I have gathered a few things about his ability and roughly how a fight with him would play out. I had to kill myself a couple more times to get these screenshots, so you’re welcome.
He seems to have one ability, and melee hits for very little (a Warlock pet was tanking him indefinitely with no one but the Warlock backing him up). That ability is going to be a pain. He latches onto the neck of a target and begins to chomp down.
I haven’t been able to figure out exactly how the damage is determined. I could survive one go with him on my neck with about 10% health, but it didn’t matter if I had Rez sickness or not. He did appear to kill a Worgen Rogue in one go, but I may have missed the transition. Note, the debuff prevents healing, and your character runs around uncontrollably for the duration.
He only seems to activate this ability on targets in melee range that are on his threat meter. I could Heroic Throw at him, Thunder Clap, and Dragon Roar safely. Kitting him even worked (briefly) when I aggro’d him alone. Interestingly, he doesn’t hop on pets, which is why the Warlock pet tank worked.
What I can gather is a world boss level fight requiring a lot of organization to avoid complete chaos. He will probably continuously chain latching onto targets, melee will have to stay stacked on the fleeing target while healers take care of the character previously latched onto. Ranged DPS will be doing most of the damage as melee will be in constant threat of being chomped. With the amount of Health he has, and the amount of damage he appears to be dealing, this is probably tuned for level 90, and only Warlocks and Hunters will be able to solo him for the foreseeable future. As the bodies below indicate.
